Description:

On the back of this painting Scheuerle wrote, "Standing Cloud, Ogalala [sic] Sioux. Painted in 1909 - on the Pine Ridge Res S. Dak. He was participant in all the Sioux battle - the Red Cloud War of the sixties - Fetterman & in the Wagonbox fight - 1866 and '67 - in Custer last battle - went to Canada with Sitting Bull Band after Custer fight - returned & surrendered in July 1881 - He was a fighter all thru - was wounded and held out with his great chief...I have two poses of him...the first one in 1907 painted in Coliseum in Chicago when he was with the 101 Ranch Wild West Show.
