Description:
The Territory and State of Montana established bag limits and closed seasons - but initial enforcement was weak or non-existent.

Throughout the 20th century, the state expanded the Department of Fish and Game (now known as Fish, Wildlife & Parks) to manage wildlife, which is held in the public trust.

Montana's tribes also worked to maintain their lands and hunting heritage.
