Description:
This drawing predates the drip paintings that Jackson Pollock was most famous for. He delved into Jungian influences, mining unconscious impulses into conscious. Elements of surrealism and inspirations from artists Picasso and Miro are present in this work. Born in Cody, Wyoming, Pollock eventually made his way to New York City where he studied under Thomas Hart Benton. In 1949 he was rocketed to fame after an article in Life magazine asked, "Is he the greatest living painter in the United States?" Fighting alcoholism most his life, he died in an alcohol related car accident the age of 44.
