Description:
De Niro presents his first and only exhibition at the newly opened Poindexter Gallery, established by Elinor Poindexter. His show meets with a laudatory review in Art News that singles out De Niro's "relaxed power" in contrast to the "nervous aggressiveness of many younger New York talents today." His charcoal rendering of Garbo is worthy of comment for its psychological charge: "A profile drawing of Garbo is an inspiration of portraiture one seldom sees any more and a large full face of her has the fixating quality emanated by deeply felt things."
