Description:
Scheuerle remarked, "The Shield in this picture tells a very interesting story of 'White Grass' - Blackfoot Indian. It is his shield I borrowed for picture - When White Grass was a fighting buck, he went to Crow Village on a horse raid - armed with Rifle - After cutting out the horse he was after, and giving the war whoop - he was followed by the Crow Men and shot down 7 of them - The Crows were not all killed - White Grass had the rifle, while the Crows had only bows and arrows. White Grass tells this exploit of his youth every year at the 4 of July Camp - Painted 1910 - The picture on the shield tells the story - The Crow Camp pitched in circle is very ably shown - The Raider, the horse, the gun - the 7 Crows - and bow and arrow, and White Grass - The beaver."
