Description:
Scheuerle wrote, "'White Grass' No. 1 - Blackfoot - painted at Browning, Mont. July 1910 - Blackfoot Camp. He arrived in old fashioned Travoix [sic] - the only one I ever saw in action - Have good photos of his outfit - He stopped when he saw me waiting with camera and demanded 2 bits, before allowing me to photograph - Turned out a very good friend of mine - gave me a shield cover, decorated by himself - depicting himself young warrior stealing horses from the Crows - In this action he claims having killed 7 Crows." White Grass's shield can be seen in the portrait of Yellow Owl that Scheuerle painted in 1910.
