Scheuerle's inscription on back of his portrait of White Bear reads, "A great story. White Bear - Medicine Man said go ot [to] Fish Hook, site of old dirt lodge Village in center of old Council Dirt Lodge, see 2 stalks of corn growing - His daughter dies last year of (T.B.). Before she died she said, 'Father next year when the corn is growing come out and you'll see me in the center of the Council Lodge growing in the shape of a Cornstalk.' There are 2 corn stalks growing in the center of circle of old Council Lodge standing 2 feet high (in July, no other corn near) I saw it with my own eyes, and I saw old Medicine Man go out in the morning & greet & speak to his daughter, and pat her hands - the leaves."
