Description:
On the back of his portrait of Rocky Boy Scheuerle respectfully depicts a Sun Dance Ceremony he was invited to witness on the Blackfeet Reservation, in 1912. He wrote of the participants, This bunch of Crees & Chippewas, about 200, known as 'Rocky Boys Band', are fugitive from Canada since the Riel Rebellion of 1885 they have been roaming the reservations of the north west of U.S. without any home & thru winters live in Great Falls - across from the city...they are ragged and poor...it's a wonder nothing is done for them or given a home someplace in this big country - Russell & Linderman are well acquainted with these Indians & have been trying to help them get a home...Painted at Blackfoot Res. Mont. 1912"
