On the back of his portrait of Mountain Sheep Scheuerle wrote of his model, "Mountain Sheep - An old Crow type, 78 years old. Painted at Crow Agency, Mont. July 1938. He wears a heavy buffalo wool cap all year round, never takes it off and sleeps with it on his head - Queer duck, has land, but don't care to lease it, like other Crows, to Whites..He made a swell model"
