Wyo - Here lies the remains of a famous Indian woman, of the Shoshonis [sic], SA-CA-JA-WAE - She was Lewis and Clark's guide thru the mountains to the Columbia river - Expedition1803-04-05. She died here at an old age - 100 years old - and the good Rev. Roberts placed a bronze tableet on her grave - Note the form of markers! Long poles with flying colored bunting. The Bed one died on, carried out and placed over grave, sometimes personal of the deceased such as kettles, pots, butcher knives, washboard (in middle foreground) and placed and left on grave - taken from a sketch I made" he was impressed by the headdresses that Wa Wee Chee was wearing, "A new headdress! First one I had a chance to see - made from feathers of grouse or sage hen and tied to back of head and neck."
