Description:
Scheuerle noted, "RAGGED ROBE - ATSINA-OF ARA-PAHO STOCK - also called Old Medicine Man of the Gros Ventre - Painted at Fort Belknap Res. Mont. 1914 - He's a Medicine Man and carries a wand decorated with an old scalp, taken long ago - also a good Bear Claw necklace - I tried to buy from him - but couldn't - it was so darn hot during my stay there - all of men discarded most of their clothes, and sat around nearly naked, all but myself - Musquitos [sic] were bad, at the agency, so moved up to Lodge Pole, sub agency, 40 miles south in the hills, the Little Rockys, in time for a 4th of July celebration, nice country."
