Description:
Scheuerle noted, "Plenty Coups" Chief of Crows - A great fighter, his name tells, counting many coups - He never fought the Whites - always against Gros Ventre Sioux and Blackfeets - about 65 years old - He was a good friend of mine - On one of his trips to Wash, he stopped off with me in Chi[cag]. - We had good times, took him sthopping and sight seeing and had a pow-wow at Doct. montezuma [here Scheuerle is referring to his friend dr. Carlos Montezuma or Wassja, Apache, who was a well-known Indian rights advocate.] - I photographed him with my daughter Margaret - in 1918 in Lincoln Park, Chi[cago]. He shook hands with Sup't Cy De'Voy, and his Chimpanzee Monkey, Mary. Then Mary got real intimate and took something out of Plenty Coups inside coat pocket - I asked him if he liked Mary - he said: NO!"
