Scheuerle wrote of his friend, "Charging Hawk - Rosebud Sioux - Brules - CETAN WATAKPE - He came to see me - 1913 in Chicago. He's a show Indian - out with wild west shows in summer - as often as his hair grows long, he has it cut and sells it to some hairdresser or maker of whigs, gets $15 for it - like his ancestors - 'he raises hair'".
