And the Bride Wore… : Montana Weddings, 1900-1960
Title:
WEDDING DRESS
Date:
1939
Object ID:
2007.49.04 a,b
Description:
Twenty-one-year-old teacher and accomplished seamstress Dorothy Scott sewed this basket-weave wool dress herself, and later shortened the hemline to keep up with current fashion. She completed her ensemble with a plastic, multi-colored maple leaf necklace and felt hat when she wore it at the civil ceremony that joined her in wedlock to thirty-five-year-old farmer Clarence Stoltz. The couple traveled to Helena to be married by an associate justice of the Montana Supreme Court on December 27, 1939. The couple honeymooned in Seattle before returning to Clarence's Valier-area farm.
