This elegant and expensive dress, with hand-stitched silk lace and silk ribbon, suggests a commitment to ritual on the part of Agnes Metully and her family. The eighteen-year-old daughter of a miner, Agnes married twenty-two-year-old Charles Stefanich, also a miner, in Butte at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on January 13, 1907. Both Agnes and Charles, whose suit is also on display, were born in Croatia, and the couple spoke Croatian at home throughout their lives.
