His greatest tribute came from his fellow artist, Charles M. Russell.
I am a painter, too, but Paxson has done some things that I cannot do. He was a pioneer and a pioneer painter. He was also a soldier who fought under the colors of our country.
Paxson passed away at the age of 67 on November 9, 1919. His death was noted in newspapers across Montana, the Montana House of Representatives issued a resolution "To the Memory of Edgar Samuel Paxson, Artist, Pioneer, and Writer."
Paxson loved Montana. May the land where he has gone be even more beautiful than the mountains that he loved.
