Description:
On the back Scheuerle wrote, "My good friend Ben American Horse, Jr., son of the famous Chief American Horse - painted July 4, 1909. Lighting struck his brother Tom's teepee the night of July 3 - 1909 and killed his sister in law at the White Clay Camp, 25 miles north of Pine Ridge Agency. I was present in a nearbye [sic] home Gillespie the night of the storm, it was awful, the following morning I drove over to the camp, where all were mourning the death of Tom's wife, they buried her the same eve, July 4th."
