Description:
In the 1890s the maker of this quilt's family moved to Liberia, Africa, while she was a teenager. Emma started the quilt while in Liberia and finished it in Montana. Returning to the United States, she made her way to Butte, where she married Martin Luther Smith in 1913. Eventually the family settled in Great falls, but prior to this they lived in Lewistown, where Martin worked as cook and Emma as a laundress.
